So you finally decide to take a break from Facebook or even get rid of your account entirely. Great, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re gonna show you how to both deactivate and delete Facebook account on App.
How to Delete Facebook Account on App
We’ll be using an iPhone for this tutorial but the process is identical if you have an Android phone. So let’s begin.
First, launch your Facebook app. Then tap the hamburger icon. Next, scroll down and tap Settings and Privacy.
In the expanded menu, tap Settings. Scroll down to Account ownership and control and tap it. Now tap Deactivation and Deletion.
You’ll have two choices here and the account deactivation option should be selected by default. Make sure it is and tap Continue to Account Deactivation. In the next screen, enter your current Facebook account password if you’re asked to do that.
Then tap Continue. Now, select your reason for deactivation or simply type in a few choice words for Facebook in the field named other.
Then tap Continue on the next couple of screens where Facebook will beg for you to stop. Don’t listen to the cries for mercy. Remember, it’s a corporation that sells your personal data for the highest bidder, not an innocent puppy.
Finally, tap Deactivate My Account before you change your mind. And boom, your Facebook account has been deactivated. You can now enjoy your temporary social media detox. But before you go, a quick reminder. There’s actually not that much of a difference between deactivation and logging out. This means that if you wanna go further, you need to think about full deletion.
With that said, remember that actual Facebook Account deletion is permanent. There’s no going back, which is what you want, right? If not, stick to deactivation until you’re ready to proceed.
Still wanna continue? Good. But first, make sure to back up your Facebook conversations and photos so let’s do that first. Launch the app and tap the hamburger icon. Then scroll down and tap Settings and Privacy. Tap Settings from the Menu.
Now, scroll down and tap download your information. Check everything you wanna download. Select the data range and the backup file format and make sure to choose High for media quality.
Then tap the Create File button at the bottom, which will download your history. You’ll get an email from Facebook when your backup is ready. And once you get the email, go back to this step and download the file.
Now we can move on to deleting your Facebook Account. The final step. Phew, let’s do this. So launch the Facebook app and tap the hamburger icon. Scroll down and tap Settings and Privacy again. From there, tap Settings, scroll down and tap account ownership and control.
Then tap deactivation and deletion. Select delete account, then tap Continue to account deletion. And finally, tap that Delete Account button. And just like that, you’re all done with the boomer social network never to be seen on Facebook again. Or are you?
Well, actually, not quite. Facebook has a final surprise in store for you. Apparently, it takes 90 days to completely remove your Facebook account, so you’ll be able to restore your account during that period but there’s a chance your profile photo will sill be hanging around for all that time.
